The Romans have once again been humiliated by the Gauls. Felonius Caucus, right hand man of Centurion Nebulus Nimbus, head of the fortified camp of Totorum, suggests a Big Fight. This is a Gallic tradition where two Gallic chiefs fight and the winner becomes leader of both tribes.
To fight Vitalstatistix, chief of Asterix’s tribe, the Romans enlist a Gallo-Roman collaborator, Chief Cassius Ceramix of Linoleum. Vitalstatistix would surely win with Getafix’ magic potion of invincibility, but the Romans plan to capture the druid long beforehand. In an effort to rescue him, Obelix accidentally puts Getafix out of action with a menhir, the impact of which causes amnesia and insanity.

Obélix frappe par inadvertance son druide bien-aimé d'un coup de menhir. Panoramix en oublie la fameuse formule de la potion magique. Les Romains vont bien sûr tenter d'en profiter...
Obélix, qui ne connaît pas sa force puisqu’il est tombé dans la marmite de potion magique étant petit, lance par jeu un menhir qui tombe malencontreusement sur le druide Panoramix. Celui-ci en oublie la formule de la potion magique. Flairant la bonne affaire, un charlatan à la solde des Romains s’installe dans le bois près du village des Gaulois désemparés, les menace des pires fléaux et leur donne des consultations secrètes. Astérix et Obélix essaient de retrouver la formule de la potion et, à l’issue de nombreuses expériences sur un jeune Romain sympathique et étourdi, trouvent la solution à l’amnésie de leur druide, redonnent le bonheur à leur village et repartent de plus belle à l’assaut de l’armée romaine, après avoir déjoué les ruses du devin.
