Jake Huard waking up after being knocked down during a boxing match. He gets back on his feet and defeats his opponent. As he returns home, he sees a picture of his mother and sister and decides to become an officer like his sister.

The next day, Huard quits his job as a boat fixer and gets accepted into the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis by Lt. Cmdr. Burton. At a bar where Huard's friends celebrate Huard's acceptance, one of his friends "swears on his mother" that Huard needs a girl as an escort. Huard meets a young woman named Ali and decides to give her a tour of the Academy during the next time they get together.
