Penelope Cruz is up against British actresses Imelda Staunton and Sarah Adler in the best actress category of the European Academy Awards.
Tom Cruise's former girlfriend has been nominated for her role in "Don't Move", the Guardian reported. The awards are to be given away in Barcelona Dec 11.
Sarah Adler was nominated for Jean-Luc Goddard's "Notre Musique" and Imelda Staunton for Mike Leigh's abortion drama "Vera Drake".
"Vera Drake" faces competition in the best film category from titles including Spanish director Pedro Almodovar's "Bad Education" as well as the foreign-language Oscar contenders, "Les Choristes" and "The Sea Inside", whose star Javier Bardem has been nominated in the European best actor category.
A win at the European Academy Awards would come at a crucial time for the Oscar hopefuls. The 77th Annual Academy Awards will be given out on Feb 27, 2005.
